Our habits, both good and bad, are powerful influences on how we live every day.

The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens by Sean Covey is one of the most powerful positive thinking books I’ve ever read. Although it’s aimed at teens, the values and tips can apply to anyone. I found the 7 habits helped me set goals and stick to them, improving my relationships and my work life.  (Sean Covey is the son of Steven Covey, who wrote the best selling book The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People.)

It’s full of tried-and-tested, reliable advice.  I found this book is written in an easy to read format that is entertaining and visually appealing.  My son used this book in his first year of high school to help him sort through some of the choices he had to make.

I especially like the ‘baby steps’ summary at the end of each chapter that lists concrete actions that you can do to get into the habit.

Some of the topics that are covered include making choices, setting goals, understanding others and working together as a team.  My favorite section is Sharpening the Saw, which talks about the four areas we can all learn more in: body, heart, brain and soul.

I recommend this book for anyone, but I especially recommend it for teens and young adults that want to gather or improve their life skills.  It’s very motivational!
